Young Child 1, 2, 3 & 4: 5-7 years

Additional Information for 5 – 7 years

The Young Child program is the capstone of the Kindermusik program. It is a sequential 4 semester (2 year) program where students learn to read notes from the staff, read rhythms, learn musical terms and learn to play 3 instruments: the glockenspiel (a barred instrument), the dulcimer (a string instrument) and the recorder (a wind instrument). When they complete the program, they are prepared for success in private music instruction.

In the second year of Young Child (Young Child 3 & 4), we will continue learning notes from the staff and reading new rhythms. We will learn about new composers and music terminology. BUT, the most important addition to the Young Child 3 curriculum is the dulcimer! It is a string instrument and the children always love playing the dulcimer. In the spring, (Young Child 4), the recorder (a wind instrument) is added – also very popular and lots of fun! When children complete the program, they are prepared for success in private music instruction.

Young Child 1 & 3 are offered in the fall semester; Young Child 2 & 4 in the spring semester.
