The last week of classes is the week of April 16!

Make up classes will be offered at the following times:

Wednesday 5:45-6:25 p.m.

Our Time (18 months to 3 years)
Tuesday 10:15-10:55 a.m.
Tuesday 5:30-6:10 p.m.

Imagine That (3-5 years)
Wednesday 6:40-7:25 p.m.
(Wednesday 4:30-5:15 p.m. – only offered if needed; please let me know if you prefer this time)

If you have  missed a class due to illness or other emergency, please sign up in the classroom (on the green chalkboard at the back of the classroom) or email me and I will add your name to the list.  If you have missed for any other reason and you would like to make up the class, please let me know and if there is space, then I am more than happy for you to attend.

January catalogs for Scholastic Book Orders are on the back table of the classroom and are due back by the end of next week.  The following week, I will have February catalogs available.

To order, you can either fill out the order form on the printed catalogs and return them to the classroom (there is a yellow basket on the table at the back of the classroom that says “Scholastic Orders”) – OR you can go to www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs.  Click on the parent page, set up a user name and password and then enter the one-time class activation code – GVFBF and enter your order.

There are books available for infants to 8 year olds.  The catalogs called “Honeybee” tend to have books for the youngest children.  “Firefly” and “SeeSaw” catalogs are also for the younger ages.  It is a great way to buy books at a less expensive price.

Please check this website for closing information (click on News & Articles).  I will try to post closing information as early as possible if there is a cancellation.  Also, the outgoing message on the KinderCenter phone (812-872-2377) will reflect any closing information.  Additionally, I will send out closing information to the email address you have given me with closing information.  Hopefully, with all these measures in place, everyone will get the message.

I don’t anticipate a closing today, but we will see what transpires!

Please do not call and ask me to return your call – that is almost impossible with the number of phone calls I would receive.

There is something special about music that makes learning about the world around us easier.

Music provides:

- Repetition that reinforces learning.
- A rhythmic beat that helps coordination.
- Patterns that help in anticipating what comes next.
- Melodies that capture our attention and hearts in enjoyment.
- Words that are the building blocks of language and literacy.

Music supports many developing skills.

It can:

- Build relationships, communicate feelings, and provide comfort.
- Help older toddlers share, make friends, and feel comfortable in a group setting.
- Foster language development through stories, rhyming, and rhythm.
- Develop individuality by allowing children to discover their own sounds and unique styles of music.
- Launch creativity by allowing children to fill in missing words, discover new sounds, or make up songs.
- Develop fine and large muscles through finger plays, dancing, or playing instruments.
- Build coordination by letting children follow a beat and sue their minds, voices, and bodies together.

Imagine That (3-5 years)
Toys I Make, Trips I Take – A toy shop filled with boats, trains, a jack in the box and many other toys provide the back drop for this fun filled semester!

Young Child 2 (5-6 years)
Young Child 2 continues learning on the glockenspiel.  We will add more notes, rhythms and music terminology!

Young Child 4 (6-7 years)
Young Child 4 adds a new instrument – the reorder!  We will also be studying music from around the world.

She is planning on being at the Young Child 1 & 3 classes this week and sharing a song/game from her homeland of Ghana, where she grew up.  I think this will be a great opportunity for the children.  Tina has a commitment during the Monday 5:45 class, but if she is able to work it out, she will be at that class as well.

I very much hope this is the beginning of many multicultural events at KinderCenter!
